Jim Schmidt and Dave Goodman founded Hyacinth House in 1975, developing the company’s motto of “Home of Quality Green Plants and Flowers.” Hyacinth House purchased VanPeenen’s Flower Shop in 1977, a retail store and greenhouses that opened in 1930. Today, the family-owned-and-operated company has 25 full-time employees and two divisions: wholesale, a green and blooming plant distributor; and retail, a full-service florist. Hyacinth House boasts 30,000-square-feet of greenhouse space that is packed year-round with quality blooming, green and seasonal plants. As a full-service florist, Hyacinth House offers consumers a wide variety of cut flowers, floral arrangements, green and blooming plants, plant rentals and more. We cater to everyday events as well as weddings, funerals, graduations and corporate functions. In addition to a wide variety of fresh cut flowers and green and blooming plants, we sell stuffed plush animals, ceramics and pottery, crystal and glassware, baby novelties, latex and Mylar balloons, and fruit & gourmet baskets. Our floral designers have many years of combined experience in the field of design. In addition to skills required in the floral industry, they have experience with interior design and special events industries. The variety and quality of staff experience and skills strengthen our ability to provide the customer with a variety of approaches; be it contemporary, traditional or high style, our staff allows the client the versatility to choose the fashion that fits their own individual tastes. The wholesale division compliments its marketing strategy with the Wholesale Florist and Florist Supplier Association (WF&FSA). Hyacinth House Wholesale Division Hyacinth House also is a professional high-end tropical and blooming plant wholesaler that carries more than 500 varieties of indoor plants ranging from the 2 ½-inch terrarium plants to 15-foot trees for Interiorscaping. We also handle holiday plants, spring annuals, wicker baskets, pot covers and leaf shine. Our service area includes most urban and rural areas in the Lower Peninsula. Our customer base numbers in excess of 400 and includes florists, greenhouses, garden centers, interiorscapers, churches, non-profit agencies and universities. Delivery of our product is accomplished with our fleet of showroom sales trucks, complete with skylights and self-contained heating. Three trucks leave daily and service 15 routes; upon the truck’s arrival, the client chooses the available product and is invoiced at that time. Our sales team telephones clients the day before service to generate orders. The greenhouse crew packages and manifests plants to each salesperson's truck and orders are checked for quality and accuracy by the drivers. Two long-term employees complete the loading at night. |
